Hong Kong Government Invites Bids for Three Brownfield Sites

Instructions

The Hong Kong Lands Department is actively seeking bids for the short-term lease of three brownfield locations. These sites, situated in Kwun Tong, Tuen Mun, and Yuen Long, are designated for various industrial uses, including open storage, warehousing, workshops, and recycling facilities. This initiative aims to address the needs of businesses affected by ongoing urban development.

Eligibility for these tenders is specifically extended to brownfield operators who have been displaced or will be displaced by government-led land resumption and clearance exercises. These projects are slated to occur between now and the fourth quarter of 2029. However, operators who have previously been invited to participate in short-term tenancy tenders at least twice following relevant clearance exercises are not eligible to apply for this current round.

This strategic move underscores the government's commitment to facilitating the relocation and continued operation of brownfield businesses whilst pursuing broader development objectives. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their tenders before the closing date of November 9th, ensuring that vital economic activities can continue with minimal disruption during periods of urban renewal.

By thoughtfully managing land resources and supporting affected businesses, the government demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to urban planning and economic sustainability. This not only mitigates the impact of development on existing operators but also promotes efficient land use and a resilient economy.
